The World
The sun set on Vael nineteen years ago.
When the last sun guttered out over the spire-city of Vael, most people learned to be quiet. The things that woke in the dark are patient, and they navigate by sound, by warmth, by the memory of a face.
You are a Lanternkeeper — one of the few still permitted to carry open flame through the under-districts. Light is currency. Light is a weapon. Light is the one thing that makes you visible to everything that wants it. Every block you brighten is a block you can no longer hide in.
There is no map back to morning. There is only how far the oil lasts, and who you choose to keep warm before it runs out.
