Film · Studio — Est. MMXIV

An independent film studio for the strange, the small, and the stubborn. We finance, make, and carry the light for the pictures the big rooms wave off the lot.

LANTERN

We keep a small flame for big, frightening, tender films — and we point it at the people who make them.

Who We Are

The Studio

02 — Manifesto

We believe a film is a place, not a product. We make the kind you carry home in your coat and find again, years later, in your pocket.

Lantern is filmmaker-first by design. Final cut belongs to the director. We never test-screen a picture into a shape it was never meant to hold, and we never sell a poster the film can't stand behind.

We finance lean, shoot on film when it serves the story, and release wide enough to matter without diluting what made the work worth lighting in the first place. One programmer reads every submission. There is no algorithm here — only taste, argued out loud.

The Salt Year

A film by Mara Quinlan

For twelve winters, Edith has kept a light no ship has needed since the harbour closed. When a single letter arrives addressed to a man who died before she was born, she begins to suspect the sea has been keeping its own correspondence — and that she is, at last, being answered.
