A share in an eighteen-acre vegetable farm, paid once in spring, eaten every week from the first strawberries in June to the parsnips before Thanksgiving.
The deal, plainly
You pay in March. We plant in April. From June to Thanksgiving, dinner is whatever the field does best that week.
What a share means
A CSA share is not a subscription; it is a stake. Your money arrives when the farm needs it — seed orders, greenhouse heat, the March payroll — and the harvest arrives when the field decides. You share the upside and the weather.
In the hail year, 2019, the boxes ran light for three weeks of July. Nobody asked for a refund. Four members drove out to help us re-seed the brassica block. That is the whole idea, working.
Who's growing it
June Okafor and Petra Reyes have farmed this ground since 2013 — eighteen acres of vegetables, three in cover crop, ninety laying hens rotating across the fallow blocks. Certified organic since 2016; no plastic mulch since 2021.
The farm is named for the two hedgerows flanking the wash barn: one juniper, one rue. Both bitter, both useful, both still standing. So are we.

The farm stand

Not a member? The stand sells whatever the boxes didn't take: seconds tomatoes by the flat, eggs while they last, bread from Loaf of Chatham on Saturdays. There's a scale, a cash box bolted under it, and a clipboard for tallies. In eleven seasons the honor box has come up short exactly twice — both times followed by an apology note and a twenty.

Sign-ups open November 28 at 8 a.m. — the Saturday after the last box goes out. Shares have sold out by New Year's six winters running, and current members get first refusal, so write early.
