Therapy that fits how you actually live.

Evenings and early mornings. Your couch or ours. A therapist chosen for you by a person who read every word you wrote — not a directory with 400 headshots.

Sessions from $40 · matched within 48 hours · first appointment inside a week

In for five, out for five. You've already done the first thing we'd have asked.

How matching works

Three steps. One of them is a nap-length form.

Answer nine questions

What feels heavy, when you're actually free, which fee band fits your income, and what you need in a person — gentle or direct, quiet or talkative. About three minutes. No essay required, though you can write one.

Rosa reads it

Every intake at Fernwell is read by our matching lead, Rosa Delgado — a human being, not a sorting algorithm. Within 48 hours you get one name, with a short note explaining why she chose them for you.

First session inside a week

Early-morning and evening slots are held for new clients. And if the fit is wrong, tell us — we rematch you within a week and the next first session is free. About 1 in 8 clients switch. It's normal.

What we treat

Four rooms, one door.

Every therapist here is licensed in Oregon, most in Washington too. All four kinds of care run on the same sliding scale.

Individual therapy

Anxiety, depression, burnout, grief, and the low hum of not-quite-right that doesn't have a tidy name yet. ACT, CBT, and psychodynamic work, depending on who you're matched with.

50 min · weekly or biweekly

Couples & partners

For the argument that keeps having anniversaries. Gottman-trained therapists who won't referee — they'll show you both what the fight is actually about.

75 min · all configurations welcome

Teens 13–17

A room where nobody reports back to your parents. We put in writing, before session one, exactly what stays private and what — by law — can't. Teens read it first.

50 min · after-school slots held

New parents

Perinatal mood, identity vertigo, the grief nobody warned you about. Bring the baby — spit-up on our couch is expected and, honestly, tradition.

50 min · daytime · baby welcome

The people

Meet a few of the twenty-three.

Sliding scale

Pay what your income says, not what the market does.

Portland's average private-pay session runs $190. Ours runs $40 to $185, set by your household income. You pick your band.

We never ask for pay stubs. The honor system has held since we opened in 2019 — and it's cheaper than paying someone to distrust you.

About $64,000 a year → $95 / session

The whole scale, stated plainly. Fees are per 50-minute session; couples sessions (75 min) add $30 to any band.
Household incomeYour fee
Under $32,000$40
$32,000 – $52,000$65
$52,000 – $78,000$95
$78,000 – $112,000$130
$112,000 – $150,000$160
Above $150,000$185

Prefer insurance? We're in-network with Providence, Regence, PacificSource, and Aetna in Oregon and Washington. Ten sessions a year are held free for clients between jobs — just tell Rosa.

Good therapy isn't a luxury good.

It's a Tuesday at 7pm, and someone paid to be entirely on your side.

You don't need the right words. Arriving is enough.

Asked, answered

The things people ask before they book.

Anything else — email hello@fernwell.care and a person (usually Rosa) answers within one business day.

Will you actually check my income?
No. You pick your band and we believe you. In seven years the scale has never been strained enough to make us add paperwork — and if it ever is, we'd rather absorb that than make everyone prove they're struggling.
Virtual or in person?
Both, and you can switch anytime. The studio is at 3418 NE Fremont St in Portland — six rooms, plants that are doing okay, free parking on Cesar Chavez. Video sessions cover all of Oregon and Washington.
What if my therapist isn't the right fit?
Tell us — to Rosa, not your therapist, if that's easier. We rematch you within a week and your next first session is free. Roughly 1 in 8 clients rematch. Nobody's feelings are hurt; fit is chemistry, not a report card.
How long will I be in therapy?
The median at Fernwell is 14 sessions. Some people come for six, some stay for years. Every eight sessions your therapist checks in on whether to continue — so staying is a decision you make, not a drift you notice later.
Do you prescribe medication?
Not in-house. When medication is worth discussing, we refer to two psychiatric NP practices we trust (both take our same four insurers) and — with your written consent — coordinate care so you're not the messenger between providers.
